Chris van Loggerenberg

Chris holds an Honours degree in Physical Education from the University of Pretoria and has extended national and international experiences in human movement sciences, fitness and sports conditioning for a number of sporting codes. He has made numerous guest appearances at both sport and corporate functions, appeared on national television for fitness interviews, lead numerous fitness projects both local and abroad and has written numerous articles for magazines and newspapers.

As a senior lecturer in Physical Education at the Johannesburg College of Education (1982-1987), Chris launched and conducted the first Physical Conditioning Curriculum for final year physical education students.

It was during this period that Chris embarked in the fitness industry as both an aerobics dance instructor and educationist. He also certified as a qualified aerobics instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in 1984. FITCO was formed (initially started as the Aerobics Institute of South Africa (AISA) in 1985, to cover the total fitness industry certification from aerobic dance, personal fitness training, aquaerobics, step aerobics to strength and conditioning.

In 1990 Chris was appointed as the first fitness trainer for a provincial rugby team, i.e. Transvaal and the immediate success of his appointment resulted in the birth of fitness conditioning coaches for provincial teams. Chris concluded FITCO's education and training for fitness professionals in 1997, to relocate to Cape Town to assist in the revival of the Western Province Rugby Team and with great success, winning the Currie Cup after an 8year drought. This involvement as both skills and conditioning coach added to Chris' rugby career and ended with the national team the Springboks in 2002.

Chris has since then been operating a very successful personal training business at the Vineyard Hotel Fitness Centre, Newlands, Cape Town, since 2002. He has been consulting as an athletic performance consultant for High Schools, and added a consulting business in fitness facility/equipment design and planning for private homes, corporate and leisure institutions.
